Jet2 and Jet2holidays plan to cancel some flights and holidays to three destinations across Spain and Portugal until early 2021.
However, the travel company takes this decision because of the ongoing uncertainty for travel plans during the pandemic. Moreover, due to the travel restrictions in place by the Foreign Office to both holiday hotspots.
Therefore, the company is suspending flights and holidays to Malaga and Alicante in Spain until February 10, 2021.
Meanwhile, it is suspending Portugal flights and holidays to the Algarve from November 1 through to February 10, 2021. However, Jet2 will continue to offer a revised schedule of flights to Portugal until the 31st of October 2020.
On its official Twitter page, the company announced the news of cancelations and said it will be in contact with the people affected by this decision. In addition, it says that it will refund the customers for their holiday those who are affected by the cancelations.
Holidaymakers who choose to rebook their trip instead will be offered a £100 discount for departures up until March 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, customers were supposed to fly with the airline till October 31 and now have changed their plans. They can rebook their trip with no additional changes.
The news comes as the Foreign Office continues to advise Brits against all non-essential travel to Spain and Portugal.
Portugal was briefly added back to the UK’s travel corridors in August, only to be once again removed just a few weeks later.
Changes in Travel Restrictions
Amid the pandemic, the FCDO has been changing travel restrictions constantly. Whereas, in some cases advising against ‘all but essential travel’ to a destination with less than 48 hours’ notice.
When this advice changes and there are restrictions for that destination. It clearly means that holidays to that destination are over. Moreover, it invalidates most travel insurance policies.
However, Jet2’s new FCDO cover means that it will cover both before you travel, or if you are in the destination. And the FCDO advises against ‘all but essential’ travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But the insurance will still cover the expenses of up to £10m in medical, £5,000 in cancelation, and £2,000 in baggage cover.
