Jungceylon Shopping Comlex Phuket, Thailand Information, Image, Videos

The Jungceylon Shopping Complex is the latest addition to the vibrant entertainment scene in Phuket.

During the 16th century when Phuket was a prosperous port town surrounded by the Andaman Sea it was known as Jungceylon, hence the name of the mall. The mall benefits from a superior location as it is close to Patong Beach which is Phuket’s most popular and most lively area, and also the major nightlife districts of Bangla Road and Rat-U-Thit Road.

Review Of Jungceylon Shopping Comlex Phuket:

The Jungceylon Shopping Complex promises to be more than just a shopping mall, it also has excellent dining, entertainment and leisure facilities. Among the entertainment options here are a state of the art cinema, bowling alley, karaoke lounges, elegant restaurants and a number of bars and pubs.

The mall has been designed using Sino-Portuguese architecture and features large areas of lush green vegetation, a serene lake and a traditional Chinese Junk which helps to combine the exoticness of Phuket with a modern shopping mall. This area also has a catwalk that is used for fashion shows and other events that are regularly hosted at the Jungceylon.

The mall is home to a collection of exclusive designer brands and also has a special section dedicated to traditional arts and crafts. Among the major tenants that can be found here is the world renowned Robinsons Department Store and the Carrefour Hypermart. Being located in the busy and bustling tourist area of Patong Beach, Jungceylon is located close to the Millennium Resort Patong Phuket, a recognized Patong hotel resort.

With facilities including an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, spa, water park and one of Asia’s biggest swimming pool.

This is the best part of the very long Bang Tao Beach with several restaurants on the beach.
The laguna area is mostly very clean, unlike some other parts of the beach.

A visit to Bang Tao Beach should include the laguna area!

The northern end of the beach is very quiet with a small restaurant on the beach.

Together with a few sunbeds this is a good spot to get away from the crowd so long you don’t mind that only the beach along the restaurant is cleaned.

You find the restaurant at Soi Layan 2. Below is pictures from the restaurant and just outside the cleaned area.

There are a number of shops, restaurants and bars near the entrance to Laguna Phuket, as well as those within the resort complex. The nearby town of Cherng Talay has a few shops as well as a fresh market. Canal Village within Laguna Phuket comprises about 30 shops, mostly selling handicrafts and clothing items.

It is the main tourist resort in Phuket. It also contains an important center of Phuket’s nightlife and is the center of inexpensive shopping on the island. The beach became popular with Western tourists, especially Europeans, in the late 1980s. Numerous large hotels and chain hotels are located there.Patong Beach is as equally famous for its nightlife as also the 3.5-kilometer beach that runs the entire length of Patong’s western side. Nightlife is centered on two main areas Bangla Road and ‘Paradise Complex’, with Bangla Road being predominantly straight and Paradise Complex being predominantly gay. Both roads are lined with many themed bars, discotheques, and go go bars. Prostitution in Thailand is illegal but tolerated as is the case with Patong Beach, especially on Bangla Road where there are many older Western men drinking with much younger Thai women and transvestites.

Roti (unleavened, whole-wheat flatbread) filled with your choice of vegetables, chicken, beef, fish, seafood, or just sweetened with thick condensed milk, are cooked near the door of the restaurant. Many curries, including Massaman—a Muslim curry that has a strong peanut flavor—are also served at a steam table. Avoid the narrow downstairs dining area, which is unpleasantly hot and usually crowded; there’s a more comfortable air-conditioned room upstairs.

The Bangkok International Film Festival (BKKIFF) (Thai: เทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติกรุงเทพฯ) is an international film festival held annually in Bangkok, Thailand, since 2003. In addition to film screenings, seminars, gala events and the Golden Kinnaree Awards.

History
First years

The Bangkok International Film Festival was first held in 2003, and was organized by Nation Multimedia Group in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, or TAT. Prior to 2003, the Nation Group had organized the Bangkok Film Festival (note, no “international” in the title), first held in 1998. After the 2003 event, the Nation Group and the TAT split. The TAT continued with the Bangkok International Film Festival from 2004, while Nation Multimedia founded the World Film Festival of Bangkok, which was first held in October 2003.

For management of the Bangkok International Film Festival, the TAT awarded a contract to a Los Angeles, California firm, Festival Management, which programmed the festival from 2003 to 2006.

Such celebrities as Catherine Deneuve, Jeremy Irons, Michael Douglas, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Bai Ling, Christopher Lee, Oliver Stone, Terry Gilliam and Joel Schumacher were flown to Bangkok to attend the festivals, and were present for such events as red carpet-festooned opening ceremonies, cocktail parties and awards banquets.

Post-coup festival, bribery scandal

After the 2006 Thai coup d’état, the government installed by the military-run Council for National Security reduced the budget for the film festival by two thirds from 180 million baht to 60 million baht. As a result of the cuts, the TAT broke its management contract with Festival Management, and then postponed the 2007 edition of the festival from January to July. With a focus on Asian cinema the resulting festival was a lower-key affair than in previous years, though it did host a visit by Indian actress Hema Malini, who was the subject of a retrospective program.

Following the 2007 event, management of the festival was transferred from the TAT to the Department of Export Promotion.

In December 2007, the United States Department of Justice arrested Gerald and Patricia Green, the owners of Festival Management. In an affidavit by a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, the Greens were accused of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for their alleged payment of US$1.7 million in bribes to a person the affidavit identified as the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

In Thailand, Juthamas Siriwan, who served as TAT governor from 2002 to 2006, denied any wrongdoing, but in the days before the December 23, 2007 general election, she resigned from the For the Motherland party, of which she served as deputy leader.

As an appointed Governor of the TAT by Thaksin Shinawatra’s Thai Rak Thai Government, the former governor is now indicted in USA for taking bribes in relation to the film festival.

In late February 2008 the website of the TAT announced that the 2008 Bangkok International Film Festival would be held in July. It was then postponed and held in September 2008, with TAT as the main sponsor but with the Federation of National Film Associations and the Thai Film Directors Association as the organizers.

Located on land owned by the Crown Property Bureau. It opened in 2001.

The Night Bazaar is open from 9pm , with some shops open later. It has vendors selling gifts, clothing, jewellery, fruit, compact discs, hand-made products like tapestries and fine arts, such as paintings and sculptures. There is a large beer garden, with an array of food available, and live entertainment. On the other side of the market there is a quieter area with many restaurants offering both inside and outside garden seating.

Bangkok Hall, a 6,000-capacity entertainment and special events hall, is located in the Night Bazaar. Until March 2007, it was called BEC-TERO Hall, and was primarily used by the media company to stage concerts. Also in the Night Bazaar is the Joe Louis Puppet Theatre, a traditional Thai puppet troupe that give performances of the Ramakien, Thailand’s national epic.

The property was leased from the Crown Property Bureau by P Con Development until March 31, 2006. Tenants were given until April 2007 to vacate the premises, but as of April 2008, most vendors remained open, and it looks like business as usual. Plans are to develop the property into office buildings, retail areas, residential and entertainment complexes.

Relocating to Suan Lum Night Bazaar Ratchadaphisek.

The developer of Suan Lum nightbazaar has bought a large piece of land on Ratchadaphisek Rd. It plans to build a large mixed-use development, called Ratchada Night Bazaar. Most vendors will move to the new location. Already at this new location is the large Ratchadaphisek-Ladprao night market. It will also be integrated in the new mall/market. Expected completion is 2012.

The king also had stables for the elephants built in the palace ground.

Formerly an elephant stable, this Thai-style building was built in the reign of King Rama V in Dusit Garden Palace compound. The stable was moved into Chang-ton Museum by the Ministry of Education in 1988.
